THE HISTORY

Founded in 2008 by the Gil Family, Bodegas Shaya is located in the south-eastern part of the appellation of Rueda, in the province of Segovia. The estate is made up of 75 acres of old-vine Verdejo, much of it un-grafted and some parcels are up to 120 years old, in addition to 320 acres of younger, trellised vines. The vineyards are located at 2,300 ft above sea level and yields are low, 2.5 t/ha, making for concentrated and aromatic Verdejo.

THE TERROIR

In the delicious white wine bastion of Rueda the hundred percent Verdejo experience is conceived. These wines with multiple mineral aromas and a balanced acidity come from selected old vines, cultivated in sandy soils covered with pebbles from this land of literary rivers. At the southeast of Segovia, visited by the snowfall, some vineyards survive with very low yield. The vineyards guard some of the jewels of the Spanish winemaking heritage, as the “pie franco” (European root) vines, which guarantee the genetic purity of the grape and a high-quality wine. The Noah 's ark of the Verdejo grape.
