Story
HISTORY
Borgo Scopeto is an old and well-established estate producer of Chianti Classico. It is a true borgo - a hamlet with its own church, post office, town center, and residences. Elisabetta Gnudi Angelini owns Borgo Scopeto, along with Altesino, Caparzo, and Doga delle Clavule. The first bottle of Chianti Classico with the Borgo Scopeto label dates back to 1990.
TERROIR
Chianti Classico, in the center of Tuscany, is considered the heart of the Chianti wine producing region. It encompasses 18,000 acres, bordered on the north by Florence and to the south by Sienna. It includes the commune of Castelnuovo Berardenga, which is where Borgo Scopeto is located. Castelnuovo Berardenga is the southern-most commune within the Chianti Classico zone, and the vineyard areas have some of the largest limestone deposits. Being the southern most zone of the region, the Castelnuovo Berardenga wines tend to be the most ripe and richest tasting in the region. They enjoy very high stature in the grand scheme of quality for Chianti Classico.
