PHILOSOPHY

Essay refers to the popular abbreviation for South Africa (SA) as well as implying an assemblage or blending of things to create a whole greater than its parts. Essay Wines consists of two blended wines produced in a Mediterranean style representing the best from the Agter-Paarl area. The vineyards are unirrigated and planted on old Malmesbury shale soils producing wines with distinctive flavor and texture. 

THE REGION 

José Conde and Tyrrel Myburgh have made their winemaking home in both Stellenbosch and Paarl of the Cape Coast of South Africa. Just north of Stellenbosch, the Berg River runs through the district of Paarl allowing for better water retention than many of its neighboring districts. In Agter-Paarl, the vineyards benefit from the water retention, allowing for them to be unirrigated.
