La Fuga

Tenuta La Fuga is located in the historical district of Camigliano, southwest of Montalcino. This estate, the smallest of the family group with 9.8 hectares of vineyards, enjoys temperatures mitigated by the proximity to the Tyrrhenian Sea. The soils are the result of the lands emerged in the Pliocene era, therefore rich in fossils, and of the sediments of the now extinct volcano Monte Amiata.

Located west–southwest of the town of Montalcino, Tenuta la Fuga was originally part of the Camigliano estate. The 75-acre property was split from that estate in the early 1980s and sold to owners who developed it over two decades before selling it to the Folonari family in February of 2002. Of the estate’s total area, 25 acres are planted to vines registered under two appellations, with 16.25 acres classified for Brunello di Montalcino and 4.37 acres classified for each of Rosso di Montalcino and IGT Toscana. The only variety grown is Sangiovese.

Ambrogio and Giovanni Folonari are the heirs of a history that spans the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The founder, Lorenzo Folonari, was born in Valtellina in 1729 and moved his family to Val Camonica, an area destined to become the cradle of a line of entrepreneurs. There, they will bind their name to entrepreneurship – first through trade and then with the production of wine.

In 1882, the brothers Italo and Francesco Folonari transferred the company headquarters, then known as Fratelli Folonari, from Val Camonica to Bresci and in 1911, they bought the historic Tuscan winery Ruffino. Ruffino was known for its distribution in Italy and its Chianti Classico, bottled in traditional wine flasks wrapped in straw.
