Story

THE FAMILY

Miguel Torres Chile offers a range of limited production, terroir driven, innovative wines with a sense of history from 9 different valleys spread 930 miles from North to South of Chile. Miguel Torres Chile’s expertise and experience led them to exceptional and varied terroirs which they matched with specific varieties, highlighting the unique personality of each grape, and showcasing the natural diversity of Chilean viticulture and winemaking. Innovative and well-known winemaker Eduardo Jordán oversees the production of the entire wine portfolio, taking advantage of Chile’s ungrafted old vines from Pre-Phylloxera times, its unique climate and influence of the Humboldt Current, and exceptional soils (Costa, Entre Cordilleras, Andes). Using both international varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon as well as Chilean revival ancestral varieties such as Carmenère and País. CHILE In 1979, Familia Torres arrived in Chile, marking an incontrovertible turning point in Chilean winemaking. Pioneers in the region, they were the first foreign winery to arrive in the country. Thanks to their experience as vine growers in Spain, Familia Torres introduced stainless steel vats and French oak barrels in Chile, revolutionizing the wine industry and kickstarting a new era in the quality of Chilean wines. Embracing the continued pursuit for unique and distinctive wines, Miguel Torres Chile has worked diligently to revive ancestral varieties like the País grape in order to craft identity-driven wines with a sense of history. Over the years, this quest has led to unprecedented wines such as Escaleras de Empedrado, the first Pinot Noir grown on slate soils in Chile, and Manso de Velasco, produced from vines more than 150 years old. An exemplary winery and leader in high-end Chilean wines, Miguel Torres Chile today is under the direction of owner Miguel Torres Maczassek and is built upon by three pillars: organic farming and sustainability, fair trade practices, and innovation.

Among other green initiatives are reducing energy consumption and their C02 footprint, use of alternative energy sources such as solar panels, water management, and sustainable product packaging. Recognized for their pledge to sustainability, Torres received Wine Enthusiast’s 2019 Social Visionary Award, and in 2018 was named Winery of the Year by Wines of Chile.
