Story

THE BRAND

A range of wines produced by Marqués de Cáceres, Rivarey is a fresh and lively expression of Spain’s famed Rioja region. Rivarey aims to offer a selection of everyday wines from the region that are meant to be enjoyed with delicious, everyday meals. The Rivarey range includes a 100% Tempranillo Crianza, a 100% Viura white wine, and a Rosé from a blend of Tempranillo and Garnacha.

THE REGION

Rioja This region is the oldest DO in Spain (1925) and the first to earn Calificada (DOCa) status (1991). It is arguably Spain’s best-known wine region and has more than 600 wineries, 14,800 grape growers, and the largest number of the barrels in the world. It is located in the north of Spain, on both sides of the Ebro River. It is divided into three large zones: Rioja Alta, Rioja Alavesa, and Rioja Oriental. With more than 160,000 acres of vineyards, each town and terroir has its own personality, making Rioja a unique land. The whole area benefits from the confluence of two widely opposing climates (Atlantic and Mediterranean) with an annual rainfall of only about 5 inches and mild temperatures, ideal conditions for grape growing. Rioja soils are also highly suitable for quality viticulture, as they have a balanced structure (sand, silt, and clay), are slightly alkaline, poor in organic content, and have moderate water availability during the summer.
