Rosario Vera

Rosario Vera

Story

Founded in 2017, Rosario Vera is the Gil Family’s most recent venture, taking them to the famed Rioja region in Northeastern Spain. Named after the 4th generation’s mother, the winery is a testament to the role she played in the continuity of the family business. The Gil Family purchased 47 acres of small plots of Tempranillo, aged between 15 and 60 years, in Rioja Alavesa and Rioja Alta, at altitudes between 1,300 and 2,600 feet. The winery is located in the town of Laguardia in Rioja Alavesa at the foot of the Sierra Cantabria.

Located in the northernmost sub-region of the Rioja appellation, the area of Laguardia has a continental climate but receives some maritime influences from the Bay of Biscay to the North. Mountains to the north and south protect the region from the extremes of both climates, providing a microclimate in which the Tempranillo grape thrives. Soils are mainly calcareous clay at elevations between 980 and 2,800 feet with rainfall between 16-21 inches per year.

Our estate vines are all dry-farmed and hand-harvested, and no pesticides or herbicides are used. Each parcel is fermented separately in small stainless-steel tanks and aged in French oak barrels. The wines are vegan certified.
